Week 1: Understanding Your Feelings
Parents gain a new understanding of their feelings by learning how our thoughts, feelings, body, and behaviours work together and impact us in everyday situations. They also get a chance to connect with other new parents in a welcoming environment, and get to know the course facilitator.
Week 2: Building Closeness with Your Baby
Participants will explore and discuss ways of building a strong bond with their babies. Amidst so many changes, it can be hard to feel like what you’re doing is enough. Parents learn strategies and perspectives on how to be kinder to themselves during this time and enjoy time together with baby.
Participants identify and explore activities that create connection with their baby and brings them joy.
Week 3: Doing Things That Make You Both Feel Better
Participants learn ways of slowly getting back into doing things they enjoy, and how to build a new routine that works for them and their babies.
Week 4: Playing Thought Detective
In this session, participants learn how unhelpful or negative thinking can impact their feelings and behaviours. They learn how to identify unhelpful thoughts and how to deal with them.
Participants also learn how to look at things differently with the Amazing-Unhelpful-Thought-Busting Program (strategy).
Week 5: Living Life to the Full with Your Baby
In the final session of the course, new parents learn strategies for getting better sleep and explore ways of asking for help when they need it. Participants will also learn techniques for managing anger and frustration, as well as strategies for problem-solving when feeling overwhelmed. And of course, participants celebrate completing the course!
