Meet Lin Carr – Perinatal Health Facilitator

Hi everyone, my name is Lin and I am joining the RPHN family as a Perinatal Health Facilitator! I live in Regina with my husband, our 7-year old daughter, our 5-year old son, and our giant Doberman Shepherd. In my spare time I enjoy reading, listening to true crime podcasts, tending to my ever-growing indoor jungle and outdoor garden, and lounging with my family. I am currently in my 3rd year of my Bachelor of Social Work degree at the U of R, with a special focus on mental health services in Saskatchewan.

I am passionate about perinatal mental health care in Saskatchewan because I lived through postpartum depression and anxiety after the birth of my son in 2017. At that time there were few public resources and support systems in place for new parents; it was very isolating feeling like I was alone in my struggles. I experienced first-hand how complex (and sometimes frustrating!) navigating the mental health system in Regina could be; I had to jump through quite a few hoops in order to get affordable mental health care. I also understand the mental load that comes with being a new parent, as well as the stigma that comes with experiencing a postpartum mood disorder. It was a long road to recovery, but I am glad I can share my story with other parents to help break down that stigma and create a sense of community and belonging.

I started following Sara and RPHN on Facebook a few years ago and I applaud her efforts to fill the gaps of perinatal mental health care in Regina. My hope is to add onto what Sara is building and to provide an additional space where new parents can decompress and cope with everything that being a parent entails. I look forward to joining this community and getting to know all of you!

If you, or someone you know, needs support, there are many different ways we can connect!
